Ursenbach is a municipality in the Oberaargau administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.

Geography

Ursenbach has an area of 9.1 km2 (3.5 sq mi). Of this area, 63.7% is used for agricultural purposes, while 30.8% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 5.3% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (0.2%) is non-productive (rivers or glaciers).[3]

Demographics

Ursenbach has a population (as of 31 December 2010) of 930.[1] As of 2007, 3.0% of the population was made up of foreign nationals. Over the last 10 years the population has grown at a rate of 2.3%. Most of the population (as of 2000) speaks German (98.6%), with Serbo-Croatian being second most common ( 0.7%) and French being third ( 0.2%).

In the 2007 election the most popular party was the SVP which received 53.8% of the vote. The next three most popular parties were the SPS (10.8%), the CSP (8%) and the FDP (6.9%).

The age distribution of the population (as of 2000) is children and teenagers (0–19 years old) make up 26% of the population, while adults (20–64 years old) make up 52.4% and the seniors (over 64 years old) make up 21.6%. In Ursenbach about 79.1% of the population (between age 25-64) have completed either non-mandatory upper secondary education or additional higher education (either university or a Fachhochschule).

Ursenbach has an unemployment rate of 0.67%. As of 2005, there were 133 people employed in the primary economic sector and about 49 businesses involved in this sector. 191 people are employed in the secondary sector and there are 15 businesses in this sector. 74 people are employed in the tertiary sector, with 18 businesses in this sector.[3]
